New iPods Next Week?

The rumors have proven true. Apple (AAPL) will indeed hold a special event this month, and judging by the design of the invitation, it may well showcase some new hardware. “It’s got to be new iPods. That’s 100 percent certain,” said Needham & Co analyst Charles Wolf. “The only question I cannot answer is whether they will also do new MacBooks.”

Regardless of what Apple’s got up its sleeve, the event is scheduled for Tuesday Sept. 9, and will be held at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, not Moscone Center. Which is an interesting choice of venue since YBCA is full-on a two-tier theater designed for concerts and theatrical presentations. What that means, if anything, remains to be seen. We’ll find out next Tuesday.

One thing that we have learned is that piracy is not a pricing issue. It’s a service issue. The easiest way to stop piracy is not by putting antipiracy technology to work. It’s by giving those people a service that’s better than what they’re receiving from the pirates.
