Amazon Shares on the Moon

Amazon’s much needed good news in a week full of bad news is proving a boon to investors. The nice gain the online retailer posted in its fourth quarter appears to be reviving traders beaten into submission by the worst economic malaise since the Depression. Amazon’s (AMZN) shares are trading up more than 17 percent as I write this. Sadly, the company’s good fortune doesn’t seem to be doing much for its peers. The tech-heavy NASDAQ is trending down and auction rival eBay (EBAY) is slipping, still suffering from those ugly earnings it reported earlier this week.

Amazon has remained true to themselves and has never followed or copied the business model of anyone else. This is no secret – but it is an important factor and one of the reasons for their success.

As stated in another other news: “This company is executing flawlessly”.

I couldn’t have said it better myself!

The now failing “has-been” eBay is a facsimile, a cheap imitation, a copy, a xerox, a wanna-be and has completely lost it’s way.

eBay’s approach to disruptive innovation with a once successful business model, has back-fired. Their first mistake was to alienate it’s core customers – the sellers. Their second mistake was to try to be someone they are not. Third was to incorporate disruptive innovation with an already successful business model.

Those drastic measures of disruptive innovation are better used tactically as a way to reviving ailing, failing or dying companies. Way to go Meg and John! If I didn’t know better, I’d say John Donahoe was really working for Amazon. He sure has done an exceptional job of destroying eBay in a short amount of time.

All the good and honest sellers that eBay has kicked to the curb in favor of over-seas garbage and Diamond PowerSellers (who pay zero listing fees), have all left for Bonanzle and Amazon and they will never return.

eBay has never come up with an original idea and like opportunistic vultures, have always perched on the fence waiting to acquire and assimilate the ideas of others.

I guess we all know where to invest, right?

Kudos to Amazon for kicking the sand back in eBay’s face as they once again struggle to be you.

Amazon has been providing good customer service for years. Prime shipping continues to spread and people seem relaxed about using marketplace.
It is very much the “goto” site for shopping, at the moment no other site offers anything like the depth of products. I am just waiting to see them shift into services in a much bigger way.

As long as the newspaper was a bundle, no one ever had to care that people were buying it for radically different reasons. But once you go online, and people can unbundle things, where you can traffic directly to a story without going through the home page or any of the rest of it, suddenly what it — the individual choices made by individual readers come to matter a lot.
