Oh, One More Thing…Ladies and Gentlemen, I Give You…Steve Jobs

jobs-reportsofmydeathWelcome news: Apple (AAPL) CEO Steve Jobs is nearly ready to return to work and is expected to be back at his desk by months end. This after nearly six months of medical leave taken to deal with a nasty hormonal imbalance problem. “He was one real sick guy,” a person familiar with the matter told The Wall Street Journal. “Fundamentally he was starving to death over a nine-month period. He couldn’t digest protein. (But) he took corrective action.”

The Journal speculates that Jobs might make a surprise appearance during next week’s WWDC keynote and while the publication didn’t reach any hard conclusions on the issue, I suppose it is possible. When it first announced the WWDC keynote, Apple said it would be delivered by “a team of Apple executives, led by Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing.” Could it happen that the team to which Apple refers includes Jobs himself after a grand “One more thing” entrance? I’ve no idea. Here’s hoping, though.

Just as the atom bomb was the weapon that was supposed to render war obsolete, the Internet seems like capitalism’s ultimate feat of self-destructive genius, an economic doomsday device rendering it impossible for anyone to ever make a profit off anything again. It’s especially hopeless for those whose work is easily digitized and accessed free of charge.
