Q2 Worldwide PC Shipments Fell Five Percent, Gartner Says

Gartner said the better-than-expected results reflect “a small sign of a PC market recovery in terms of shipment volumes in some regions.” Consistent with comments Intel (INTC) made on its post-earnings conference call yesterday, Gartner says demand was better-than-expected in both the U.S. and Asia-Pacific, while Europe remained weak.

Hewlett-Packard (HPQ), which had a 2.8 percent gain in units on a year-over-year basis in the quarter, remained the market share leader, with 19.6 percent, up from 18.1 percent a year ago.

About Voices

Along with original content and posts from across the Dow Jones network, this section of AllThingsD includes Must-Reads From Other Web Sites — pieces we’ve read, discussions we’ve followed, stuff we like. Six posts from external sites are included here each weekday, but we only run the headlines. We link to the original sites for the rest. These posts are explicitly labeled, so it’s clear that the content comes from other Web sites, and for clarity’s sake, all outside posts run against a pink background.

We also solicit original full-length posts and accept some unsolicited submissions.
