Unlike Oprah, Letterman Does Not Even Pretend to Like–Or Even Know–Twitter

letterman2

Here’s a priceless video segment from David Letterman’s “Late Show” last night, as he is taught how to use Twitter by actor Kevin Spacey.

After asking how much it costs and noting that he could get anyone on Manhattan’s 57th Street to say hello just as much as Spacey could get tweets from his 800,000 followers, Letterman officially declares Twitter a “waste of time.”

Perhaps so, but it also makes for great talk-show schtick.

Here’s the video:

oh, twitter — I’ve HEARD of that… it’s got something to do with the INTERNET, right? ;D

He should use it for the same reason that anyone / everyone should use the Internet:

    1. it doesn’t suck (like TV)

    2. real people use it

I think those 2 are already good enough — maybe others can find more.

Just now it occurred to me, though, that perhaps entertainers don’t like the idea of being on the same level as the people Jay Rosen calls “the people formerly known as the audience”?

    Reason number 3:

Letterman should use Twitter because it is named after him.

(I actually used to watch Letterman back when he was still a comedian.)

I can’t figure out if Keven Spacey looks more like Jeff Bezos or Carl Malden now.

I love Letterman. I also love Conan but I hate LA. I wonder how much Conan is getting for that dumb “Twitter Tracker” bit he uses ? I don’t use twitter. I don’t need to know anyone’s play-by-play life. I’m too busy living my own. I check out my friends’ postings on facebook. I check the news on-line. And then, if I REALLY need to know something immediately, I USE THE PHONE and actually SPEAK into it.

The joke now is what’s the first tech company that we acquire. I hear AOL’s going pretty cheap.
