Big fan of Stallman here, but I don’t see what stops someone from taking the existing code base and forming MySQL2.

I don’t know what Sun’s problems are, but clearly they have been struggling with an identity crisis for several years.

Sun, facing pressure from commodity hardware looked to software for a rescue, but now Oracle, facing similar commodity pressures (for databases) decides to get into the hardware business.

This can only get better.
