“It’s hard to argue that any firm can compete against free offerings, especially when the free offerings come from a firm with Google’s deep pockets for staying power and eventual product improvement. And of course this ultimately reduces consumer choice….I am sure that if Nissan offered free cars in the U.S. or if Microsoft offered free photo processing software with the capability of Photoshop, both would be in federal court really fast. And I’m pretty sure that Microsoft and Nissan know this. Actually, I’m pretty sure Google knows this too.”
