Yahoo Hires Stern for Senior Partnership and Biz Dev Post

Raymond Stern

Yahoo appears to have made a significant new hire, installing Raymond Stern (pictured here) as SVP of North America partnerships and business development.

Stern has had stints as CEO at Presto Services and SVP of strategy and CMO at Intuit (INTU).

Stern alerted the world to the new job after updating his status on LinkedIn.

Stern’s role at Yahoo (YHOO) seems to be slightly broader than the person he is replacing, Jim Schinella, who was SVP for corporate partnerships.

Schinella, who is about to leave Yahoo, focused on major partners, such as big telecom firms like Verizon (VZ).

Maybe he can get their toolbar or widgets, or whatever else unfairly bundled back into other companies products again. Of course, with their new buddies MS hanging around, people might start to see that tactic as monopolistic this time. He had better build some strong, honest relationships with big players soon. Otherswise, Yahoo won't be able to monetize. It doesn't matter how big the audience gets if you can't fleece them you used to. Seems their ability to make money through questionable marketing practices is dwindling fast. More users and products just means more rev lost if Yahoo can't turn a buck from all that web property and people they are supposedly sucking in. Instead of getting a bigger slice of the pie, Yahoos might just end up with it all over their faces. Mmmmm, peanut butter flavored!

Intuit hasn't done anything major for over a decade…so why bring in someone with no real mover and shaker record?

Having worked with Raymond, I am sure that this will further accelerate Yahoo's downward spiral. He's the single biggest phony I have met in my career, he was utterly useless at Intuit, and I've heard that his stint at Presto was a complete disaster (got fired by the board after wasting tens of millions of dollars). Way to bring in a winner, Carol!

how long before we see BCG, Intuit, Presto, Yahoo as past employers on Stern's resume?
