Sesame Bringing E-Books to the iPhone
Two weeks after Sesame Workshop said it would launch a line of digital books for children two to six years old, the nonprofit organization has launched an iPhone app that will let kids read Sesame books on a smartphone while listening to a recording of their parents’ voice reading along.
The first title to launch will be “Where Is the Puppy,” a book about the character Elmo looking for a lost puppy, available for download now for $1.99 in Apple’s (AAPL) App Store. Six more titles are expected to roll out in January, according to Jeffrey Fleishman, Assistant Vice President for Media Distribution Business Development of Sesame Workshop.
Sesame Workshop has partnered with ScrollMotion to bring the first in a series of Sesame titles to the iPhone and iPod touch. ScrollMotion’s Iceberg Reader and the Sesame Apps also allow users to record their own voice using the iPhone microphone, which Josh Koppell, co-founder and Chief Creative Officer of ScrollMotion, says acts as a digital keepsake. “Not only can you record a parent’s voice reading the story so the kids can listen to it, but what about grandparents? Someday, you might wish you captured their voices, too.”
