Anti-Sexting Campaigns Heat Up

“Sexting,” the short–and sometimes annoying–term for “sexy texting” is getting a lot of negative attention these days as anti-sexting ad campaigns heat up online.

The Ad Council has launched a series of Public Service Announcements promoting the slogan “Think before you post.” One depicts a teenage girl who keeps getting creepy comments from people who seem to know intimate things about her. The football coach compliments her on her new tattoo. The ticket collector at the movie theater asks what color underwear she’s wearing today. Then we hear a voice saying “anything you post online, anyone can see.” Another video shows a girl posting a picture on a bulletin board that instantly reappears after someone takes it down, allowing everyone at the school–even the janitor–to get a copy. The message: once you post something online, “you can’t take it back-anyone can see it.”

About Voices

Along with original content and posts from across the Dow Jones network, this section of AllThingsD includes Must-Reads From Other Websites — pieces we’ve read, discussions we’ve followed, stuff we like. Six posts from external sites are included here each weekday, but we only run the headlines. We link to the original sites for the rest. These posts are explicitly labeled, so it’s clear that the content comes from other websites, and for clarity’s sake, all outside posts run against a pink background.

We also solicit original full-length posts and accept some unsolicited submissions.
