How Can We Miss Fail Whale if It Won't Go Away? (Twitter Down) UPDATED

Twitter went down early this morning, as you can see from the picture of the infamous fail whale below, which is now gracing the microblogging site’s front page.

A message read: “Twitter is over capacity. Too many tweets! Please wait a moment and try again.”

UPDATE: It’s back!

Here’s Twitter’s explanation of the 90-minute outage: “A sudden failure coupled with problems in switching to a backup system produced a high number of errors for around 90 minutes. This made the site largely inaccessible. No data was lost or compromised during this outage.”
