Once one of the big cable or satellite operations decides to offer an internet-based subscription service, the tipping point will be reached…which is pretty much what Walt said and what I happened to blog about yesterday (http://c3it.wordpress.com/2010/03/03/are-tvs-he…).

Tthe tiny image I watched above would look pretty crappy on my TV. Maybe HD is possible via IP somewhere like Korea. I can't see the UK's crappy web infrastructure supporting anything close to streamed TV quality, let alone HD, anytime soon. It's a 'spirit is willing but the flesh is weak' kind of thing.

Great to see that you don't judge products until you try them out for yourself. It's too often people “assume” how new products will work without test driving them their selves.

When the public gets their hands on intel's new wireless streaming technology, it may just be a revolution!
    Thanks Walt.

It isn't purely a bandwidth issue. There are like 100 factors that go into whether you see a video in high quality or not. The codec that's used, whether it's on a Content Delivery Network or not, the skills and experience of the people who published the video, the source of the video, so many more.

You can actually replace a low-quality 320×240 Adobe FLV video with a high-quality 720×480 ISO H.264 video and use the same bandwidth because H.264 is so much more efficient. The user will notice a dramatic increase in quality. This is a very common task today, because in addition to the increase in quality, you also get compatibility with mobiles and set-top boxes and the video still plays in FlashPlayer on the desktop. But the quality alone makes it worthwhile.
