Apple: Will Sprint Get the iPhone?

Here’s an interesting question: could Apple (AAPL) add Sprint (S) as the second U.S. carrier for the iPhone?

There’s not much to go on here, but a blog called The Tech Update is reporting–this is pretty sketchy–that an anonymous employee of a Best Buy (BBY) store in Pennsylvania claims a Sprint iPhone is coming, and that they expect store displays for a Sprint iPhone in the next week or so.

I have no idea if this is true, but you could imagine why they might want to do this; via its access to the Clearwire (CLWR) WiMax network, the carrier has the first functioning 4G mobile network, with a considerable lead over the LTE-based networks coming from AT&T (T) and Verizon (VZ).

About Voices

Along with original content and posts from across the Dow Jones network, this section of AllThingsD includes Must-Reads From Other Web Sites — pieces we’ve read, discussions we’ve followed, stuff we like. Six posts from external sites are included here each weekday, but we only run the headlines. We link to the original sites for the rest. These posts are explicitly labeled, so it’s clear that the content comes from other Web sites, and for clarity’s sake, all outside posts run against a pink background.

We also solicit original full-length posts and accept some unsolicited submissions.
