AT&T Has Another 3.2 Million Reasons to Love Apple

AT&T reports Q2 revenue of $30.8 billion and earnings of $0.61 a share. The Street was looking for $30.9 billion and $0.57 per share, so we’ll see how investors react to the mixed result.

But per usual, AT&T’s relationship with Apple (AAPL) is nothing but good news for the company: It says it activated a record 3.2 million iPhones in the quarter, and that 27 percent of those were new AT&T (T) accounts. That is, Steve Jobs and company helped AT&T bring in another 860,000 customers.

AT&T’s Q2 numbers include six days of iPhone 4 sales, including a massive rush of pre-orders that the company says was 10 times greater than its 3GS pre-orders in 2009.
