China's Tudou.com Builds Out Studio With Fresh $50M Funding

Competition in the China online video industry is cut-throat, thanks to a proliferation of well-funded companies formed in the wake of YouTube Inc.’s success in the U.S. According to data from Shanghai advisory firm RedTech Advisors LLC, there are seven online video content providers in China that have raised a total of $815 million in venture capital.

Beyond well-funded competitors, companies are contending with high operating costs as they move away from user-generated content and begin to license more professional content, and begin to make and market their own productions as one of the largest sites, Tudou.com, is beginning to do.
