Google's Mobile Product Dude Hugo Barra Talks About Seamless Smartphones (Except for the Video-Calling Part)

Yesterday, Google held a press event at which the Silicon Valley search giant unveiled two new mobile features: Voice Actions and Chrome to Phone.

The first lets you speak a variety of requests and commands into the mobile phone and get a wide range of results; the second is a way to send information from the Google browser to a mobile phone app on an Android smartphone.

After the demo, which included Google (GOOG) Mobile’s Director of Product Management Hugo Barra ordering a smartphone around in five different languages, I spoke to him about the new and innovative bells and whistles for the Android mobile operating system software.

He also looked into the future–apparently it is open and Android-laden–but said nothing about when video-calling is coming to Google’s phone software to compete with the Apple (AAPL) FaceTime service.

Barra also ignored my request to embed a Droid in my forehead, although I can now apparently call the Blue Ribbon Bakery in New York without using my hands.

Civilization has been saved!

Here’s the video interview with Barra, which I did at Google’s San Francisco office:
