Start-Ups Called to the Starting Line for Amazon Web Services Contest

Entries are now being accepted for the fourth annual Amazon Web Services Challenge for start-ups that use the company’s cloud-computing platform. Fifteen regional finalists from 22 countries will be whittled down to six global finalists, who will each get $10,000 in AWS credits and a trip to beautiful Palo Alto. The grand prize includes $50,000 in cash, $50,000 in AWS credits and a lovely Maytag washer/dryer set. Deadline for entries is Oct. 31, and the final round of judging will be in mid-December.

About Voices

Along with original content and posts from across the Dow Jones network, this section of AllThingsD includes Must-Reads From Other Web Sites — pieces we’ve read, discussions we’ve followed, stuff we like. Six posts from external sites are included here each weekday, but we only run the headlines. We link to the original sites for the rest. These posts are explicitly labeled, so it’s clear that the content comes from other Web sites, and for clarity’s sake, all outside posts run against a pink background.

We also solicit original full-length posts and accept some unsolicited submissions.
