Nokia Munches Motally
Nokia has purchased Motally, a mobile analytics company. The acquisition is expected to close in the third quarter of this year, and when it does, Nokia will bring Motally’s technology to bear on its Ovi application store, which is a bit lacking in the that department.
Terms of the deal weren’t disclosed, but given Motally’s size–eight people–and the size of its 2009 first-round funding–$1 million–it’s likely the company came fairly cheaply.
One last point worth noting: Motally’s application tracker currently supports Apple’s (AAPL) iOS, RIM’s (RIMM) BlackBerry OS and Google (GOOG) Android, but not a single Nokia (NOK) platform. First order of business for Nokia when the acquisition closes, then: Adapting Motally for Symbian, MeeGo, Qt, and Java.
