One Million iPhones Sold in South Korea

It took the better part of a year, but Apple’s finally sold 1 million iPhones in South Korea. Korea Telecom, Apple’s (AAPL) exclusive carrier partner, announced the milestone earlier this week after selling the device for a full nine months. The announcement comes a little over a month after the iPhone 4 went on pre-sale in the country, overwhelming KT’s servers. With about 200,000 devices still back-ordered, the carrier expects to hit sales of 1.2 million by early next month.

“iPhone’s 1 million record is a symbol of smartphone’s popularisation,” said Pyo Hyun-myung, president of KT’s mobile business group. “[We’re working to create] a ‘mobile wonderland,’ where anyone in the country can enjoy data services through unlimited Wi-Fi and unlimited 3G.”
