EBay's Marketplace Chief Leaves in Midst of Revamp

Top eBay Inc. executive Lorrie Norrington announced her departure from the Internet company at a critical time in its turnaround effort.

Ms. Norrington, who runs eBay’s marketplace business–which accounts for more than half of its revenue–decided to leave for “personal family reasons,” the company said.

People familiar with Ms. Norrington’s decision said it was driven by concerns for the health of a family member.
The 50-year-old executive will remain at eBay through March, with Chief Executive John Donahoe heading the marketplaces division until Ms. Norrington’s successor is named.

EBay (EBAY) declined to make Ms. Norrington available for comment. In a statement, Mr. Donahoe said, “Lorrie has led eBay Marketplaces through significant fundamental change as we drive a multiyear turnaround strategy to enhance the shopping experience for buyers and sellers.” The marketplace business includes eBay’s auction and fixed-price listings, as well as a classifieds site and the StubHub ticket exchange.

About Voices

Along with original content and posts from across the Dow Jones network, this section of AllThingsD includes Must-Reads From Other Web Sites — pieces we’ve read, discussions we’ve followed, stuff we like. Six posts from external sites are included here each weekday, but we only run the headlines. We link to the original sites for the rest. These posts are explicitly labeled, so it’s clear that the content comes from other Web sites, and for clarity’s sake, all outside posts run against a pink background.

We also solicit original full-length posts and accept some unsolicited submissions.
