Surprise! Facebook Likes "The Social Network"–Or At Least Its Producers

The Facebook executive suite is justifiably nervous about the way the real world receives “The Social Network,” which opens next week. As it should be: The movie portrays CEO Mark Zuckerberg as a friendless soul. But for the record, the social network has given up publicly fighting with “The Social Network”‘s producers. Facebook’s official position, via the WSJ: “We found working with Scott Rudin and his colleagues to be a terrific learning experience. They do a wonderful job of telling a good story.”

    I smell a rat. I say FB in on this all along. Nobody would benefit from a company sponsored movie. Everybody benefits from this.

    I know it is about the creators, but I would find it more interesting if addressed the psychology behind it’s growth.

While it’s tempting to see the Huffington Post’s Pulitzer as a “big win for new media,” or something like that, the real story is that these organizations — the Huffington Post, the New York Times, the Washington Post — are becoming more like each other. Old media and new media are increasingly antiquated terms.
