Jon Stewart Explains WikiLeaks to the Rest of Us

What’s really in the most recent batch of WikiLeaks documents? And should we care? Jon Stewart explains, and then dissects the fascination that certain digerati (you know who you are) have with transparency.

Sorry, couldn’t shave down the eight-minute running time, but it’s worth it (boy do I miss the Hulu clip-editing feature). Also, this is NSFW if your workplace isn’t cool with the word “penis.”

I generally don’t find Jon Stewart all that funny. But I have to admit, that was pretty good.

I think the public reaction would have been different had someone unzipped congressional Caucus and PAC files rather than dredging FoggyBottom.

This is the most conservative newscast Jon Stewart has ever made. He usually begs for better journalism. And when he gets it? Pisses all over it. What a disappointment, Jon.

There has been a lot of negative sentiment in the US with respect to WikiLeaks. The feedback could not be more different overseas. ARAAZ.org has prepared a petition people can sign in support of WikiLeaks.

While it’s tempting to see the Huffington Post’s Pulitzer as a “big win for new media,” or something like that, the real story is that these organizations — the Huffington Post, the New York Times, the Washington Post — are becoming more like each other. Old media and new media are increasingly antiquated terms.
