"60 Minutes": Does Mark Zuckerberg Want to "Own" the Internet? (Plus New Profiles on Facebook!)

Here is a sneak peak at the “60 Minutes” piece that will air tonight at 7 pm PT on Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

In it, he shows off another redo of the profiles on the Silicon Valley social networking site, which puts photos front and center.

(Also, for those in the know, that’s outgoing PR poo-bah Brandee Barker rolling down the hall on the Ripstik.)

Veteran CBS correspondent Lesley Stahl asks Zuckerberg in the clip below of the interview if he wants to own the Internet–which, as usual, Zuckerberg does not exactly answer.

But Stahl–God bless her!–keeps at it!

BoomTown also makes an appearance on the television show, so let me know how you like my smart-lady glasses.

Maybe he didn’t answer the question because it is a really stupid question!

I would have said, Ya, I’ll take it if someone gives it to me but of course that isn’t likely to happen anytime soon.

Better yet, How come nobody has ever asked any of the Google guys that same question?

Google has their hands in more aspects of the Internet than Facebook does. Now we hear rumors that Google’s building a product to compete with Facebook.

If that’s true I would say Facebook should build a search engine and figure out how to utilize their social data to provide more relevant search results.

I completely agree – man what a dumb question. Can anyone say Sensationalism?

    Can’t say it’s very far from Kara’s usual…

Zuckerberg has done a better job than anyone could have imagined on running Facebook. Nice specs Kara.

Typical 60 Minutes job of chopped-up editing to fit their political agenda.

Will real Facebook rivals please stand up?

Is it just me or were Zuckerberg’s pupils blown out? With all of the hot ‘TV lighting” his pupils should have been like pinholes. Perhaps this is a clue to unravelling his interview style.

The Google guys have been asked this question by many.

I recently called Google “The Borg,” so it is a meme that is out there.

zuckerberg was dishonest with the twins (his business partners) and took their idea for himself. it may be legal but he is unethical and that matters to god. zuckerberg’s own emails proved to me how guilty he was. he might be very rich now but he is not a liked fella. the motive was money and attention. zuckerberg cant even admit he cares about money. he would have us believe he is doing this for all of us.

The ‘smart-lady’ glasses look great. Of course Zuckerbergs wants to own the internet. The sad thing is, people are complacent enough to let him do it.

Zuckerberg is a very intelligent person. He has made very wise decisions on developing facebook, which has in turn made him a billionaire at a very young age. While the concept of “owning the internet” is ridiculous, facebook certainly has a lot of influence on it.

He’s a compelling character who gives a face to “the internet” for a lot of people – no pun intended. The movie, though he might not like it, may do more for him owning a larger and larger part of the internet because he’s a become a person, flaws and all.

    Nice attempt at journalism CBS.

Polished and practiced at not answering questions whilst looking ever-so-eager.

How can anyone trust someone who still keeps on deliberately lying by admission?

He’s an a–hole. That guy has $2 billion that he made from figuring out ways to steal royalties from artists, and that’s the bottom line. You can’t really trust anybody like that.
