CityVille Gets 290,000 Residents on First Day

Cities are always more congested.

Last week, Zynga demonstrated that with the launch of CityVille, its latest social game, which follows other big–and more rural hits–like FrontierVille and FarmVille.

In the game, players build their dream city from the ground up, which draws on a lot of aspects from other games, like SimCity, where you build your own roads and buildings.

In just 24 hours, more than 290,000 people moved over to the big city, besting Zynga’s biggest game launch ever–FrontierVille. When FrontierVille launched, it attracted roughly 116,000 players in one day, and now has 6.5 million players daily. (Of course it helped that CityVille was Zynga’s first global launch.)

Other numbers Zynga was willing to spill:

  • 2.7 million residences have been built.
  • More than 500,000 bakeries have been built.
  • 5 million sections of road have been laid down.
  • 25 percent of players have set up franchises in friends’ game boards.
