Annoying Can-You-Hear-Me-Now? Verizon Guy Actually Non-Annoying in Anti-AT&T iPhone Ad

BoomTown hates the Verizon “Can you hear me now?” guy even more than I do the Progressive Insurance lady.

But his lame schtick finally works in this commercial, which the wireless carrier just put out to herald its upcoming Apple iPhone launch.

It takes a clever, if unsaid, slaperoo at AT&T. Much deserved!

This is stupid! This willl not help Verizon get more customers. The more you try to slander other companies the more pathetic Verizon looks! Verizon commercials sound desperate in trying to show ‘Hey look at me, I’m better ! ‘ give me a break! I’ll stay with AT&T ! At least they have class and focus on the customer rather than try to figure out how to make the other guy look bad! Get a life Verizon !!!

You actually think people are buying the iPhone to talk? I notice the ad didn’t mention fastest Network. Verizon iPhone customers aren’t going to be happy when they find out how slow their iPhones download data or when they’re being throttled.

You actually think people are buying the Verizon to talk? Notice the ad mentions nothing about being the fastest network. Verizon iPhone users aren’t going to be happy when they see how slow their iPhones download or when they’re getting data throttled by Verizon.

It’s competition, not slander. In spite of AT&T and Verizon’s best efforts, they now have to compete. I know you haven’t seen this before in the US cell market, but take a deep breath. It will be OK.

I’ve Had an iPhone on AT&T for 3.5 years and used to love it, but in the past 6 months it has basically become impossible to use it in San Francisco. How theoretically fast the network is really doesn’t matter when I get no data at all.

almypal, I understand your concern. But this is business. This is how people do competition. A company’s downfall is another company’s advantage.

I am shocked. Shocked I tell you. Shocked and amazed. ATT actually has fanboys? Really?

Not true…I think Verizon feels threatened by AT&T and is grasping at anything to survive. I don’t see AT&T looking to smear other companies to make themselves look better. They simply come out with a better product and market it. This smear campaign is bad business and won’t get them anywhere

How is this not more annoying? In the other commercials, he (I know I’m getting into this a little too deep, maybe) he’s making a pretty earnest enquiry and doing fairly valuable work, trying to see how far the Verizon network goes. In this one, he’s very smarmy and kind of seems like an a–hole. Plus, the copy is pretty hammy: “…even genius.” Come on, be real Verizon/Apple.
