Groupon Adds Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz to Board

Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz is joining Groupon’s board of directors to contribute his brand experience to the two-year-old daily deals company, according to the company’s blog. In addition, Schultz’s venture capital firm, Maveron, is investing an undisclosed amount of money, TechFlash reports. The funding is part of Groupon’s most recent round, which was close to $1 billion. Schultz’s expertise may come in handy, especially given Groupon’s recent Super Bowl hiccup. The pair is a good match, considering Groupon’s next-closest rival, LivingSocial, has teamed up with retail giant Amazon.com.

Cisco Consumer Unit Head Jonathan Kaplan to Leave

Cisco Systems announced that Jonathan Kaplan, SVP and GM of its consumer products unit and the former CEO of Pure Digital, the company behind the Flip line of digital video cameras, is leaving the company. The Consumer Business Group will now report to Marthin De Beer, who also heads the TelePresence and Emerging Technologies groups. The move comes a day after Cisco reported earnings that beat the expectations of analysts, but which included a disappointing forecast that sent Cisco shares down by more than 14 percent today.

Apple Working on iPhone Nano?

Apple is reportedly working on another new iPhone–a smaller device designed to compete with the proliferation of cheaper smartphones running Android. Sources who’ve seen a prototype of this iPhone…Nano tell Bloomberg that it’s about one-third smaller than the iPhone 4 and that Apple is considering selling it for about $200, off contract thanks to a Universal SIM–if it decides to release it at all.

New Version of Twitter for Android

But usage has doubled in the last couple of months, and now it’s in the top five. Accordingly, the company is launching a new version of the Android app that looks and feels more like its other official apps and offers design improvements, along with username auto-completion and universal search.
