Why has no one suggested that the 4G/3G Xoom is crippled by being available only on Verizon? It can’t be used on 4G, 3G, or 0G in most of the world, as it is CDMA, not GSM. Is it intended for the US market, only? The iPad 2 will have both GSM & CDMA models in the US and should (with whatever minor mods are required) be able to be sold with 3G access almost anywhere in the world.

I am really puzzled, though, why Motorola didn’t make a WiFi-only version of the Xoom. This almost turns the old “expensive-Mac-vs-cheap-Windows-PC” thing upside down. My GUESS is that Motorola is, at heart, a phone company. They can’t even conceive of making a device without cellular connectivity.

Did you also notice the offhand mention of the “Personal Hot Spot” for the iPhone 4 in iOS 4.3? Poof! There goes the complaint about having to pay for 2 data plans–which, I guess, the Xoom will require.

Why anyone would want to spend $100 on that Peel Remote Receiver Thing is beyond my imagination.

I used to just dislike videos. I can’t view them at work and they aren’t all that common. Many still aren’t viewable on iOS. Now they are becoming more and more common and to make it worse there isn’t even a text summary. For god’s sake, PLEASE write a text article too. If I wanted video I would of watched it on TV.

Can’t wait to see the iPad 2 crush the competition and hold 75% market share for 2011. I hope consumers are smart enough not to buy those cheap Android junk tablets. Apple needs to turn the tablet market into the next iPod market. Looking forward to seeing Apple’s share price continue to climb.

No one can type a damned story? Everything has to be a dreadful video? There’s a reason print journalists didn’t go into TV in the first place. No one wants to look at them.

The closed captioning helps, but that usually lags the original post date by a bit. Of course, if you are behind a firewall that prevents video streaming you’re out of luck. So yeah… give us the text!

I still beleave the IPAD is the best overall tablet computer for the money on the planet but it is not the best internet surfing computer because it does’nt show flash webpage content in it’s native form that’s it’s only weakness. The Ipad 2 is great
I congradulate Apple for making a great device better at the same price WOW

It’s the Verizon/Motorola XOOM, so it is designed to eat up CDMA gigabytes on Verizon’s network, not surf Wi-Fi for free, and it is sold in Verizon stores. It’s not going head to head with Apple in the consumer PC market.

The press likes to have a Coke and Pepsi, so XOOM gets a pass. And XOOM is carrying the flag for generic kit-based hardware that only a nerd could love, so it gets a pass. But when you read reviews from people who have actually used one, they are generally pretty honest about the device’s unfinished nature and many shortcomings.

These videos are viewable on iOS.

Flash doesn’t work on mobiles. Not Apple’s fault. Apple is unique on this issue only in that they don’t pretend that Flash works. Flash is PC software. The player requires a P4 2GHz 2GB or better and the content requires a keyboard and mouse.

If it is any consolation, almost nobody is doing new Flash development. Since 2008, my only Flash work has been porting existing content to open HTML5 so that it is universally viewable. The only new Flash content I have seen is the website for Motorola XOOM which is not viewable on Motorola XOOM, but they have an HTML5 version also.

don’t hold your breath. As you can see by ipad sales in the last quarter, they are already losing ground. Pretty easy to get 100% market share when there is no competition, but there is NO chance that they will retain 75% share in a market flooded with real options. Even though some of those options might not compare to the ipad2 there will also be buyers, and that will eat apples share no matter how you slice it.

Twitter’s still in its honeymoon period, but that won’t last forever. At some point, it’s going to be less of a wunderkammer, and more of a regrettable necessity.

— Reuters finance blogger Felix Salmon, in an article entitled “Why Twitter will get more annoying”
