China Is Messing With Gmail, Says Google

Google is explicitly blaming the Chinese government for the unreliability of its Gmail service over the past month for users in China. The company on Sunday issued a statement to multiple outlets: “Relating to Google there is no issue on our side. We have checked extensively. This is a government blockage carefully designed to look like the problem is with Gmail.” The alleged meddling is thought to be related to online activism in China inspired by the recent spate of pro-democracy protests in the Middle East. Last year Google started redirecting Chinese users to its Hong Kong search engine, citing Chinese censorship and hacking.

    1. Baidu.com cannot even compare to google as far as being a good search engine. While searching using Baidu.com you get a lot of junk that you were not looking for. Baidu’s success is only because there is nothing else around that covers China websites as much and also doesn’t have the problem of blocked websites as found with Google in China.
    2. FREE VPN? I think Google should try offer free Virtual Private Network services instead of all of these little paid VPN companies popping up taking advantage of country blockage. Facebook, Twitter, Youtube are all blocked in China due to politics. But if someone really wants to use any of these websites, they can just get a VPN and use it. I would question if some of these VPN services are run by China govt people so that they can better monitor the people who are using these services. Why are a lot of these VPNs not blocked? The free VPN services seems to be blocked more than the paid ones and this could be that when paying for the service the user needs to enter in all their personal information.
    3. GMAIL IS BEING FILTERED. Gmail for sure is being filtered within China. If you use the services outside of China the speed is fast but within China is stalls (thus information is being filtered and examined by computers for key political words).
    4. CHROME BROWSER EVEN SLOWER OR DISCONNECTING. Try Chrome web browser. It’s a lot slower than all other browsers in China. I wonder why…
