Know Your Meme Lands at Cheezburger

Know Your Meme, the wiki and Web show that documents viral phenomena, has been sold by creator Rocketboom to Cheezburger Network in a “seven-figure” deal, both parties confirmed today after the news broke on Tubefilter.

The purchase includes four Know Your Meme employees; however, four others from the KYM staff had left when funding ran dry last year, including the faces of the project, Kenyatta Cheese and Ellie Rountree.

The last episode of the “Know Your Meme” show appears to have been posted three months ago, but the meme database site continues to be actively maintained, with three million unique visitors and 20 million page views per month, according to Rocketboom owner Andrew Baron.

Baron hinted in a blog post that he will likely pursue another similar project, linking to a landing page for something called Meme.ly. Meanwhile, Cheezburger is flush with a recent $30 million funding round for its network of online comedy sites.
