Dogfighting Game Disappears from Android Market Following Complaints

With both Michael Vick and Alicia Silverstone calling for its ouster, it was surely only a matter of time before Dog Wars was dropped from the Android Market.

That time appears to be now, as the dogfighting game is now missing from Google’s online store, though Google has yet to confirm its official removal. The game is still listed when doing a search, but clicking on the app’s page returns a message of “We’re sorry, the requested URL was not found on this server.”

Michael Vick and the Humane Society called for the app to be pulled on Monday, with other animal rights groups and Silverstone joining the chorus.

The creators of Dog Wars noted that, while they appreciated the free speech against the app, the same free speech should allow it. Not to mention, they point out, the most popular mobile game going is one where people catapult birds at bricks.

Hmm, they do seem to have a point. But I don’t see Angry Birds going away any time soon, especially after pulling in $42 million in additional venture funding.
