Google May Have Company in Bid for Nortel's Patents

Now that Nortel Networks has been given the nod to go ahead with its IP auction, new bidders are emerging for the collection of 6,000-plus wireless patents. Which means Google may have to raise its $900 million “stalking-horse bid” if it hopes to prevail in the auction. “Patent risk solutions provider” RPX recently expressed interest in the Nortel portfolio, says Bloomberg. And Research In Motion is said to be mulling a bid in the June 20 auction as well.

What a waste of resources, bidding on the “right” to innovate, instead of actually developing and producing new products. Intellectual property should be entirely swept away.

RIM has no business spending shareholder money on this. They simply need to innovate.

Nortel’s patents are not a big risk, but different OS coexistence. assmartphones, that will not generate an increase in the value of patents. The only thing that can happen is that Google is who takesthe lead and others are seeing compete, even joining, should pay off your debts first with Microsoft and then just start to talk to Googleto take these services to put aside for a monopoly.
