Well, At Least Amazon Didn’t Call It the Mac App Store

Amazon rolled out a new application download store this morning–for the Mac. Called the Mac Download Store, it features some 250 titles, from Microsoft Office and Photoshop Elements to Call of Duty 4, all available for purchase via “an install-less download process.”

An interesting move for Amazon, which has been expanding its downloadable offerings quite a bit recently. The launch of the Mac Download Store follows by months the debut of a similar offering from Apple called the Mac App Store. And, as you may recall, Apple and Amazon have been battling for months over the “App Store” brand. Apple claims Amazon is using it inappropriately for its Appstore for Android, while the retailer says that can’t possibly be the case because app store is a generic term.
