The bottom line is that RIM is a handset manufacturer. The new smart phones are computers. The two leading companies in the computer space are Apple and Google.

It’s a HUGE jump to go from cell phones to computers. It’s almost impossible when going up against the two leaders in computer technology. There isn’t enough time. There isn’t enough talent. There isn’t enough money.

Give RIMM an “attaboy” for a good try. They showed us that they understood their problem when they acquired a browser startup and a mobile operating system startup acknowledging that they did not have this talent in house.

I’m afraid it’s too little too late. The train has already left the station and they’re not on board. Sorry about that but those are the facts.

Umm. Did anyone see those earnings from Motorola today? Nokia looks like they are doing fantastically as well these days.

Can we get a new meme? This one is tired.

QNX is not a mobile operating system and it is not a startup.

QNX has been in existence since around early 1980′s. It is not really a mobile operating system. It is an operating system that favors hard real-time strategy and it is mostly a kernel and RIM has to pick and choose which existing piece to use and which to build from scratch.

Instead of Linux, RIM decided to go with QNX. We will see how it goes in 2012.

Then after accepting the facts and annoncing new and innovated products. You completely fail and abbandon the idea and put out a new line of the same micro screen lacking bs cheap plastic standared same looking breaking down constintly phones pushing more and more customers to their compation!

I remember when they were calling the only smartphone on the market in ’06 a computer! Guess which phone that was! lol! It’s not very surprising that RIM took the ‘arrogance’ route on this one! They had a dominant position in the market & honestly believed that because they couldn’t improve on their own designs…no one could! Good riddance to bad rubbish!

About Voices

Along with original content and posts from across the Dow Jones network, this section of AllThingsD includes Must-Reads From Other Web Sites — pieces we’ve read, discussions we’ve followed, stuff we like. Six posts from external sites are included here each weekday, but we only run the headlines. We link to the original sites for the rest. These posts are explicitly labeled, so it’s clear that the content comes from other Web sites, and for clarity’s sake, all outside posts run against a pink background.

We also solicit original full-length posts and accept some unsolicited submissions.
