Apple’s iPad Growth Curve Just Keeps Getting Steeper

It’s going to be a big fall for the iPad.

Apple manufacturing partner Foxconn is ramping up iPad production heading into the company’s third quarter. Supply chain sources tell the occasionally reliable DigitTmes that Foxconn is expected to ship 20 million iPads to Apple this quarter, which concludes at the end of September.

That’s about 60 percent more than it shipped in the spring. And if that number is accurate, it means Apple expects to sell more than double the 9.25 million iPads it sold last quarter.

That’s extraordinary growth, considering the company sold just 4.19 million iPads during the first full quarter it was available. Still, it’s hardly surprising. Given back-to-school sales, foundering competition and massive demand in new markets like China, an accleration in iPad volume was really inevitable.
