HP’s Latest Innovation: Fancy Gift Box for 30-Year-Old Calculator
Is innovation at Hewlett-Packard dead? We asked that question here back in August, and now we finally have the answer.
It’s not. Because today brings with it the first piece of hardware to be conceived under CEO Léo Apotheker: The limited- edition version of the company’s 30-year-old 12c financial calculator.
Launched today in honor of its third decade on the market, the HP 12c Financial Calculator 30th Anniversary Edition is exactly the same as the original, save for a unique production number laser-etched on its back and some new “anniversary edition” branding on its front. Oh, and a gift box. Unhampered by apps and touch-based operating systems, the 12c remains the “gold standard of business calculation,” HP says.
And at $79.99, it’s about $20 less than HP’s now-discontinued TouchPad tablet.
