Mosaid Gets a Pile of Patents to Exploit for Nokia
An interesting new twist in the mobile patent wars. Mosaid Technologies, by acquiring Core Technologies, has taken control of about 2,000 wireless patents and patent applications originally filed by Nokia. But instead of paying cash for them, the holding company has agreed to give the Finnish phone maker and its partner, Microsoft, two-thirds of whatever money it makes from them. The deal is a big win for Mosaid, which believes revenue from future licensing will surpass the company’s revenue for the past 35 years.
