Clearwire’s Customer Growth Tops Expectations

Clearwire Corp. Thursday reported better-than-expected customer and revenue growth for the third quarter, and a prepaid wireless carrier said it is considering a deal to buy wholesale capacity on the company’s fourth-generation wireless network.

The news sent the company’s shares soaring by as much as 34 percent. Investors have been concerned about Clearwire’s ability to continue to add customers, as its largest customer and majority shareholder, Sprint Nextel Corp., appears to be distancing itself from the company.
