News Corp’s U.K. Unit Reaches Settlement With Dowler Family

News Corp.’s U.K. newspaper unit News International said Friday that it has reached a financial settlement with the family of Milly Dowler linked to recent allegations that its now-defunct News of the World newspaper hacked the murdered teenager’s phone. News International said in a statement that it will pay the Dowler family £2 million, and that News Corp. Chairman and CEO Rupert Murdoch will personally donate £1 million to “charities chosen by the Dowler family that represent causes close to Milly and those that provide support to other victims of crime.”
