When It Gets to “Buy One PlayBook, Get Two Free,” We’ll Know It’s Really Bad
Hoping to juice lackluster sales of its BlackBerry PlayBook tablet, Research In Motion has begun plying the evidently indifferent enterprise market with a new clearance promotion: Buy two PlayBooks, get a third free along with a trio of premium accessories.
A sweet offer, assuming you actually need three PlayBooks.
But will it really drive sales, particularly now that the company has postponed BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 until February?
Hard to say, but at this point RIM’s got to do something to stoke demand. The company shipped just 200,000 PlayBooks in the second quarter, down from about 500,000 the quarter prior, when it first began selling the device. If third-quarter sales are equally lousy, who knows what sorts of bargain-basement promotions we’ll see: “Buy two PlayBooks, get a RIM co-CEOship FREE”?
