FCC Chief to Seek Hearing on AT&T Deal

The head of the Federal Communications Commission will seek an administrative hearing on AT&T Inc.’s proposed $39 billion deal to acquire T-Mobile USA, according to a person close to the matter.

The move by Julius Genachowski, the FCC’s chairman, would be a setback for the two companies that are already facing opposition from the Justice Department, which filed a lawsuit to stop the deal. The FCC’s move would be another obstacle for the two companies to overcome. The agency’s hearing would happen the conclusion of the antitrust trial, according to this person.
