Google Buys Alfred Restaurant Recommendation App for Local Team

Google today said it had acquired Clever Sense, maker of personalized restaurant recommendations apps (if you liked that, then you’ll like this).

Clever Sense’s app, called Alfred, had only launched on Android last week. Alfred first came out for the iPhone in July and the iPad in September. The apps will continue to be supported.

The Clever Sense team will join Google’s local group in order to work on “intelligent, personalized recommendations for places to eat, visit and discover,” said a Google spokesperson.

Alfred had lots of competition as a smarter Yelp app, including Ness and Nosh. It had raised $1.6 million.

I liked a feature Alfred recently introduced that made group dining recommendations based on the preferences of multiple people.
