Gilt Gives Discounts to Match Klout Scores

Klout Scores,” which measure social media influence, are not particularly clear or self-evident. But here’s a marketing trick that may make them more memorable: Flash sales site Gilt Groupe this week will hand out discounts commensurate with Klout scores.

So, if you have a Klout score of 40, you can get 40 percent off your Gilt purchase; a Klout score of 60 gets 60 percent off, and a Klout score above 80 gets 100 percent off. There’s a bit more fine print than that — for instance, each discount is only valid for a limited number of customers on just one particular day — but you get the idea.

Klout declined to specify how many discounts will be given out. As with other Klout “Perks,” users aren’t required to tweet about their perks, but must disclose the discount when they do.
