AT&T Bringing 4G LTE to 11 New Markets by Summer
AT&T’s 4G LTE network currently covers 28 markets. By early summer, that number will rise to nearly 40.
The carrier said today that it is extending LTE network coverage to 11 new cities: St. Louis, Mo.; Naples, Fla; Bloomington, Lafayette and Muncie, Ind.; Baton Rouge and New Orleans, La.; Akron, Canton and Cleveland, Ohio; Bryan-College Station, Texas. Also scheduled for an LTE update: Staten Island in New York City.
Deployment will begin in April, with an eye toward delivering on AT&T’s promise of doubling its 4G LTE footprint by year’s end. News of the expansion comes days ahead of the launch of Apple’s new iPad, which supports 4G LTE service from both AT&T and Verizon. With 196 markets served, Verizon’s LTE network is the larger by far.
