MetroPCS Taps Japanese-Style Tokidoki to Skin New Android Phone

Aiming to cash in on the popularity of Japan’s tokidoki craze, MetroPCS is selling an Android phone decked out in the street-art style.

The Huawei phone is tokidoki inside and out, featuring a stylized case, on-screen wallpaper, a program for adding tokidoki embellishments to photos and four tokidoki ringtones.

There’s also a phone charm and two interchangeable battery covers. (That’s a lot of tokidoki.)

A video below hints at even more coming this summer.

Update: MetroPCS confirmed the phone retails for $69.99.

Update 2: The initial tokidoki phone is now on the market, not coming this summer, as initially reported. Though the companies say to expect more things this summer.

The ultimate native ads are the glossy fashion ads in Vogue: in most cases, they’re better than the editorial, and as a result, readers spend as much time with the ads — if not more — as they do with the edit.
