Sony’s New Interchangeable-Lens Cameras Focus on Portraits, Action

Nowadays, more and more people are turning to their phones instead of digital cameras for their picture-taking needs. For one thing, it’s convenient (you always have your phone with you), and two, the cameras on smartphones are getting better. However, there are still some great advantages to having a dedicated digital camera, and Sony today introduced two new cameras designed to deliver better-looking portraits and actions shots.

First up is the Sony Alpha NEX-F3. The 16.1-megapixel camera features a pocket-size body with interchangeable lenses, so it’s ideal for consumers who desire a compact body size akin to point-and-shoot cameras but want a bit more power and flexibility in lens choices.

Due out in June for $600, the camera will ship with a more general purpose 18-55mm lens, but a telezoom lens with 11x zoom will also be available for $850.

If you’re looking for a new Facebook profile picture, the NEX-F3 has a 180-degree tilting LCD screen to help you frame self portraits. In addition, an Auto Portrait Framing feature takes note of a subject’s position in the picture and crops out any excess scenery for better composition.

The camera can also record full HD video and has a pop-up flash for when you’re shooting in low-light conditions.

Meanwhile, if you’re looking for a camera to shoot quicker-moving subjects, the Sony SLT-A37 just might be the ticket.

This interchangeable-lens camera incorporates technology that offers faster shooting times and continuous auto focus, so not only will you be able to capture your son or daughter scoring the winning goal at the soccer game, he or she won’t be a blur in your pictures.

You’ll also be able to shoot entire action sequences using the A37’s Tele-Zoom High Speed mode, which captures up to seven frames per second, or you can switch to video mode and shoot full-HD movies.

Other highlights of the 16-megapixel A37 include a 2.7-inch tilt-angle LCD screen, image stabilization and the aforementioned Auto Portrait Framing.

The Sony SLT-A37 is expected to ship in June for $600 with a 18-55mm zoom lens kit. A telephoto zoom lens will be available in July for $500.

Just as the atom bomb was the weapon that was supposed to render war obsolete, the Internet seems like capitalism’s ultimate feat of self-destructive genius, an economic doomsday device rendering it impossible for anyone to ever make a profit off anything again. It’s especially hopeless for those whose work is easily digitized and accessed free of charge.
