Viral Video: Walt and I Finally Get to Show Off Our Internet Garage

In early May, my longtime All Things Digital partner Walt Mossberg and I traveled to New York University to be the first pair of victims — oops, honored interviewees — for Aaron Cohen’s new “Inside the Internet Garage” series.

During the session, we talked about our past, present and future — including how we started the feisty little nation-state of AllThingsD (on a wing and a prayer, mostly).

Our interview is the first of a series that explores the history of the Internet with the people who helped build it, write it and conceive of it.

It’s a long video, so please feel free to skip through it as you like (and yes, I do have a p-to-p ratio chart):

Just as the atom bomb was the weapon that was supposed to render war obsolete, the Internet seems like capitalism’s ultimate feat of self-destructive genius, an economic doomsday device rendering it impossible for anyone to ever make a profit off anything again. It’s especially hopeless for those whose work is easily digitized and accessed free of charge.
