Motorola Solutions Swallows Psion

Motorola Solutions — the Motorola not owned by Google — has agreed to acquire British mobile computing outfit Psion. Price: $200 million in cash, or $1.36-per-share — a 45 percent premium over Psion’s closing price on Thursday.

The deal will bring to an end Psion’s 32-year history as an independent company, though its ruggedized mobile computing products and in-car terminals will evidently live on in Motorola Solutions’ Enterprise Mobile Computing business.

The acquisition is expected to close in the fourth quarter.

Moore’s Law means that more and more things can be done practically for free, if only it weren’t for those people who want to be paid. People are the flies in Moore’s Law’s ointment. When machines get incredibly cheap to run, people seem correspondingly expensive.
