Viral Video: Remember When Surface Was Just a Big-A*#&d Table?

At the fifth D: All Things Digital conference in 2007, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer first demoed the Surface table to Walt Mossberg in an onstage interview.

At the time, the “PlayTable” was not ready to bring it to market, but it had some cool moves, such as moving photos and videos around the surface with your hands. (The table offering is now called “PixelSense,” by the way.)

While the new Surface tablets introduced yesterday by Microsoft are much different beasts, it is still interesting to see the inspiration for them.

Here’s the D5 video of the Ballmer interview, including the Surface table demo — as well as a funny mock video that CollegeHumor did about the ungainly device:
