Flipboard for Android Arrives, Adds YouTube, Google+ Integration

Flipboard is no longer just for the iPad and iPhone — the popular social magazine app is now available to Android users through the Google Play store.

The free app aggregates stories from your favorite Web sites and social networks and presents all the information in a sleek magazine format.

Flipboard made its debut on the iPad in 2010, and an iPhone app followed just a few months later. Flipboard released a beta version of the app to select Android users in May, and also preloaded a version on the Samsung Galaxy S III; now it’s available to everyone.

The app works with Android smartphones, the Amazon Kindle Fire and Barnes & Noble Nook models, but it’s not optimized for Android tablets.

In addition to the Android app, Flipboard announced that it is integrating Google+ and YouTube into the service. Users will now be able to sync up their Google+ account to Flipboard, where they can update their status, view and comment on stories in the activity stream, “+1” posts, and more.

You’ll also be able to watch YouTube videos, subscribe to channels and share and comment on clips, all from within the app.

The company also revealed today that it is releasing localized editions of Flipboard to Germany, Korea, Italy, Spain and the Netherlands.
