Skype’s Tony Bates Talks About Talking Online: The Full D10 Interview

When Microsoft bought the global Internet communications company Skype for $8.5 billion eight months ago, there was some worry about it being well-integrated into the software giant.

But, as Tony Bates — the former Skype CEO who now runs the Microsoft division — said onstage at the 10th D: All Things Digital conference, the service now has 250 million monthly connected users, up from 170 million then.

Among the many topics he covered in this interview with me: Mobile efforts with Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android, prospects for video and, of course, how integration is going with Microsoft’s slew of products, such as Windows 8 and its mobile platform.

“We’re on that journey,” he said. “You’ll have to wait and see.”
